Kokeshi Omiyage black wood

Kokeshi or traditional vintage doll from Japan in black textured wood with country landscape and character. It also bears the "Happiness" kanji.
Kokeshis omiyage or souvenir were made in Japan from 1945/50 until the 60/70's. They are brought back as souvenirs by Japanese travelers from different cities and regions and are often adorned with a haiku and a landscape drawing representing these different vacation spots. Artisans are often self-taught, or at least free to use their own style rather than traditional kokeshi techniques. Today, such omiyage kokeshis are no longer produced.
