Kokeshis or traditional vintage dolls from Japan in dark varnished wood with "Taki" waterfall landscape.
Omiyage or souvenir kokeshis were handcrafted in Japan from 1945/50 until the 60/70's. They are brought back as souvenirs by Japanese travelers from various cities and regions and are often adorned with a haiku and a landscape drawing representing these different vacation spots. Artisans are often self-taught, or at least free to use their own style, hand-carving and painting wood in a way that differs from traditional kokeshi techniques. Today, such Omiyage kokeshis are no longer made on the archipelago.
